No Thoroughfare by Charles Dickens Overview
No Thoroughfare is an interesting novel written by Charles Dickens. No Thoroughfare is a drama written in collaboration by two famous giants: Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins. They were both well-known Victorian novelists with distinct writing styles. Further, this is a quality-controlled pre-1923 historical recreation. The narrative is particularly interesting since it combines Collin’s sense of mystery with Dickens’ humor. The Overture establishes a mysterious tone for the story that follows. However, following that, the plot takes off with a mistaken identity, a colorful cast of characters, including a villain and an unconventional heroine for the Victorian era.
The writing appears to have been influenced more by Dickens, as the reader can perceive his authentic satire until the final act. Whereas, Collin’s influence can be seen in unravelling and correcting the mistaken identification and seeing to the villain’s deserved punishment. Undoubtedly, this is a pretty fun book to read. It is half adventure, part humor, and part love story about a woman’s bravery and loyalty to her love. Although some of the characters appear to be a little far-fetched, this just adds to the play’s dramatic brilliance. It is a “must read” not only for knowledge, but also for pure pleasure.
In the end, No Thoroughfare is a melodramatic story about two adoptive orphans with the same name, false documentation, frigid Alpine conflicts, wills and fortunes, a cool clock-lock, and a plucky heroine. It’s all good fun. Moreover, the story contains elements of both Collins and Dickens. It’s a brief but very enjoyable tale about people attempting to do the correct thing in the face of huge odds and being rewarded for it. Throughout, there is indeed a great deal of support for the main characters, which creates a lot of excitement amid the plot twists and conflicts. You will not be upset or disappointed that you mentioned this story. Overall, a very enjoyable read.
